Where Memory Becomes Hand-Painted Memorial Art
Personal tributes created with sand, soul, and the essence of a loved one.
Hand-Painted Memorial Artworks
We create unique, hand-painted memorial artworks that incorporate a small portion of ashes from a deceased person or beloved animal directly into the painting itself.
We exclusively create paintings — no urns, no sculptures, and no other memorial objects. Every artwork is created with the utmost care, respect, and discretion.
What We Do
At art-and-memorials.com, we specialize in creating one-of-a-kind memorial paintings. A very small amount of ashes is gently and respectfully mixed into the paint, becoming a subtle and meaningful part of the artwork.
The result is not a traditional mourning object, but a timeless piece of art that allows memory, love, and connection to remain present in everyday life.
How the Ashes Are Used
Transparency and trust are essential to our work. The handling of the ashes follows a clear and respectful process:
Only a very small portion of ashes is used
The ashes are finely integrated into the paint and are usually not visibly distinguishable
The majority of the ashes always remains with the family
We handle the ashes with great care, dignity, and confidentiality at every stage
For Humans & Beloved Animals
Our memorial paintings can be created in remembrance of both people and pets. We understand that animals are family, and we honor their memory with the same respect and sensitivity.
Each artwork is created individually and in close communication with you, ensuring a deeply personal and meaningful result.

Our Philosophy
We believe remembrance can be both dignified and beautiful. By integrating ashes into a hand-painted artwork, we offer a way to remember loved ones through art rather than through traditional memorial forms.
Every piece is created as if it were for our own family — with sincerity, care, and respect.
The Story Behind Our Memorial Paintings

It all began when a woman visited a small artist’s studio known for paintings made with sand from beaches around the world. She was drawn to two pieces—both created with sand from the Bahamas, where she had once said goodbye to her mother in a deeply personal ceremony. That night, she had a dream: her mother walking along that same beach, her presence somehow alive in the sands. Deeply moved, she returned the next day and purchased both paintings, saying, “I think my mother is in these.” Her story sparked something profound. The artist began to imagine a new kind of remembrance—artwork that didn’t just hang on a wall, but held the essence of loved ones. By blending personal traces with paint and sand from meaningful places, she created memorials that are not hidden away, but celebrated—beautiful, sacred reminders of lives forever cherished. Art and Sacred Remembrance was born: where memory becomes art, and love takes form.
C.E. MATTHÄI'S STUDIO IN THE HAMPTONS
Nestled in the light-filled landscapes of the Hamptons, C.E. Matthäi’s studio is a calm, inspiring space where creativity comes to life. Surrounded by nature and near the sea, it is here that bespoke memorial paintings are created for bereaved families.
Each piece is carefully crafted, integrating sand, pigment, and memory to become a deeply personal tribute to a loved one. Every encounter, every brushstroke, reflects empathy, care, and the intention to honor life and preserve memory.
The studio itself mirrors this approach: open, luminous, and infused with the spirit of artistic vision. This is a place where art is not only seen—but truly felt—and where memory is transformed into lasting, meaningful artworks.
